Where I come from - Stillwater, OK birth and newborn photographer

I am a part of several photography groups on Facebook. They all help me grow in my photography journey so much. There is one group that is a 52 week project. One photo per week that goes along with the weekly theme. This week, the theme is "Where I come from".

The idea for this series came from an image I saw in another group of a woman's hands rolling out dough in this beautiful light. I knew then, that I wanted to do something like it. These are what came from that inspiration. And then they turned into so much more. Make sure you read the captions on a couple of the photos throughout.

"Where I come from"

My parents have decided to sell their house. The house I grew up in. This year would be 20 years that they have (we have) lived there. It's been really hard for me to think about saying goodbye to the place I call home, the place where I come from. My friend reminded me the other day that I will always have memories even if it's not the place where our new memories are being made.

This image represents where I come from in so many different ways. This is the woman who gave birth to me, who raised me, and who my babies call Gigi. This is the kitchen that I spent every Sunday doing dishes and fighting with my brother about who got to dry. This is my home.

I made the image intentionally out of focus to represent the memories I've had there. The blurry dreaminess is like the memories of my childhood in this home.

I don't even know how many afternoons I would walk through the kitchen and stand in this same spot, and see this same thing. My mama with a rag over her shoulder doing the dishes.
